Lachung Weather In June

Witness a Riot Of Colours As The Lachung Valley Blooms Unabashedly!

A treasure trove of surprises, Lachung’s beauty finds expression in its valleys, rivers, mountains and greenery. Different seasons expose Lachung’s magnificence in different ways. However, summer outshines the other seasons by displaying a mosaic of colours and offering the ideal weather conditions to indulge in Lachung without any restraint. June presents this place in its ripe state when it is embellished with sundry flowers all over. This month is considered to be the best time to visit Lachung owing to the unusually pleasant and cool vibe of summers. The temperature in June usually ranges from 10 degree Celsius to 16 degree Celsius making it convenient for the people to enjoy the outdoor beauty.

Yumthang Valley is one such place in Lachung that can only be experienced and not described. An outburst of colours, Yumthang houses about 24 species of Rhododendrons that bloom unabashedly during June. Exquisite flowers, slopes adorned with greenery, snow-wrapped mountains and a river pacing right through the valley; Yumthang is a sight to behold. It is almost effortless to lose oneself in this “Valley of Flowers” and disconnect from the onslaught of urbanisation.

June also serves as an ideal time to visit Mount Katao, located about 28 kms from Lachung. Even though travellers and tourists need to take permit from the army to enter this area, the effort is worthwhile considering the spectacular view this place has in store for everyone. The mountain offers an unparalleled view of the snow-capped mountains and is adorned with some fabulous fauna like Poppy and Rhododendrons.

Another place that enraptures every heart is the Gurudongmar Lake. One of the highest lakes in the world, Gurudongmar is situated at an altitude of 17,100 ft. One can feel a sense of sanctity in this place owing to the sacred value bestowed by Hindus and Buddhists. The lake boasts of a milky colour throughout the month of June. According to the locals, in the past, the lake remained frozen throughout the year depriving the area of a water source for a long time. However, when Guru Padmasambhava (guru who brought Tantric Buddhism to Tibet) passed through this region, he understood everyone’s plight and touched certain parts of the river causing the snow to melt. Considering the same, the lake has been called auspicious and sacred for years now.

Even though Sikkim is home to a number of monasteries and Gompas, Rumtek Monastery or Dharma Chakra Centre stands unrivalled. The largest Gompa in Sikkim, this monastery beautifully preserves the religious and cultural heritage of Buddhism in India. The Golden Stupa is the highlight of this place as a number of monks and visitors play Kora (a stringed instrument) here. June is the ideal time to immerse in the holiness of this monastery which is open from 8am to 5pm.

Displaying Lachung as an amalgamation of varied hues, June provides an unprecedented view of this place. Ripe fauna, luscious trees, pleasant weather and majestic mountains undoubtedly contain the true essence of Lachung.
