Tsomgo Lake- The Lake With A Magical Pull!
Travel to Sikkim to treat your senses with the raw majesty of the high altitude Tsomgo Lake ( 12,310 feet) located at 2-3 hour drive from Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. It is quite fun to visit Tsomgo Lake in April when its frozen water starts melting and the surrounding range of mountains are still adorned with snow by Mother Nature. The view of the sun peeking through the snow-capped mountains creates an amazing reflection on the water.
Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu lake is a famous tourist attraction of Gangtok. Anybody who visits Gangtok must visit this lake too. Tsomgo means ‘Source of Water’ and this lake is 50 meters deep and is 1 km long. The lake is considered sacred by the people of Sikkim and it serves as a venue for Guru Purnima festival. During this festival, the faith healers popularly known as Jhakris of Sikkim gather at the lake to benefit from the healing properties of the lake water. At the time of winters the lake gets frozen and in spring it looks lively when it gets melted and its surroundings are dotted with colourful flowers. There is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located on the bank of the river.

How to Reach Tsomgo Lake in Sikkim
Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim is the gateway to the enchanting Tsomgo Lake which is located around 38 km from the capital city. You can hire a cab (a good car like Innova) to reach the lake from Gangtok. The ride can be bumpy at few stretches, otherwise, overall it’s a scenic ride that you will enjoy.
You can reach Gangtok from any major city of India through air and rail as well. You can take a flight to Bagdogra airport (125 km from Gangtok) in Siliguri, West Bengal, from the major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc., or enjoy a train ride to New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri located at around 117 km from Gangtok.

Since the lake is nestled in a restricted area, Indian visitors need an inner line permit to visit the Tsomgo Lake whereas foreign tourists require a special permit for the same.

How about enjoying a hot cup of tea or Maggie while cherishing the breath-taking views of the lake and the mountains? Yes, you have this facility there as there are several small shops near the Lake serving hot tea and snacks. These stalls also keep jackets and shoes to give on rent
Important Tips for traveling to Tsomgo Lake in April
The oxygen content at this high altitude lake is low and hence you must avoid any kind of physical exertion once you have arrived here. Relax and take it easy!
The low oxygen content might cause dizziness so it is advisable to consult your physician before coming here and carry some prescribed medicine for mountain sickness.
Don’t drink alcohol or smoke when you are here.
Drink lots of water to save yourself from dehydration.
Take light meals.
Carry woollens and shoes.
Anaemic people must carry their iron supplement because anaemia lowers the amount of oxygen in the blood and hence it makes you more susceptible to mountain sickness.
If you have a breathing problem, carry your oxygen tank.

Visit Nathula Pass, one of the highest motorable rods in the world. Located at an elevation of 4,310 m above mean sea level.
Important Information
Tourists can visit Nathula Pass in April as it is open during that time. However, if inevitable weather conditions arise and the road to the pass is blocked, in such a situation permit is not issued to visitors. It would be better if you check it in advance.
Visitors need to obtain a permit along with vehicle permission to visit Nathula pass. You are advised to take permission one day prior to your visit as there is a limitation on the number of vehicles per day.
Only Indian citizens are given the permit to visit Nathula Pass. The Pass remains open for 5 days a week- Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and closed for two days- Monday and Tuesday.
