Aritar is a fabulous destination located in East Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 1,498 m, Aritar offers great attractions like Aritar Gompa which is one of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim. It is famous for its traditional architecture and beautiful murals. Parbateyshway Shvalaya Mandir dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lampokhari Lake are other famous attraction of Aritar.
Reach Aritar By Air
Aritar can be easily reached by air by taking a flight to the nearest airport- Bagdogra in Siliguri, West Bengal. The airport is around 115 km from Aritar and it takes approximately 4-5 hours to reach from the airport. Aritar is located around 67 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Aritar is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Aritar.
One can hire a private cab/taxi or can even opt for a shared taxi. The regular flights from the airport connect some of the major cities of India. In fact, flights are also available for international destinations like Paro and Bangkok.

It is the first airport of Sikkim located at an altitude of 4,590 ft and is one of the highest altitude airports in India. Once it is operational you can easily reach Gangtok in less time.
Reach Aritar By Train
The nearest railway station from Aritar is the New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, West Bengal. It is around 108 kilometers from Aritar. Aritar is located around 67 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Aritar is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Aritar.
The railway station is well connected with the major cities like Kolkatta, Mumbai and New Delhi. From New Jalpaiguri, you can easily get a private taxi for Aritar. State-run buses are also available.
Reach Aritar By Road
A good network of roads connects Aritar with the major cities of Sikkim and other destinations of northeast India. One can easily reach Aritar from the neighbouring places by road. Aritar is around 67 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Aritar is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Aritar. Rented taxis and state-run buses are easily available to reach Aritar.
