Itinerary
This tour starts at Guwahati Airport/ Railway Station, where our representative will receive you. You will then proceed for an interesting drive to Shillong, often known as the ‘Scotland of the East’ because of its beautiful scenery and lingering colonial influence. During the drive up the hill station, there is a breathtaking sightseeing point, the Umium Lake. Located in the middle of Sylvan Hills, this large water reserve is perfect for finding some time to relax. Organized and calm, the waters have a sense of mirroring the sky and the green surroundings, making the spot suitable for taking pictures. On arrival in Shillong, check in to the hotel and spend the remainder of your leisure time either shopping at the local markets or resting after the journey. Accommodation is in your hotel in Shillong for the overnight stay.
Following a healthy breakfast, visit the interesting places of natural and historical interest in Shillong. The first place you’ll visit is the Don Bosco Museum, one of the best museums in northeast India. It has seven floors that provide historical-ethnographic and art collections of northeast India. Next, you should proceed to Ward’s Lake, an artificial lake surrounded by gardens where one can take a walk or a boat ride within the bustle of various flowers. Proceed to Botanical Garden, which possesses a variety of plants and a terrace garden, and Lady Hydari Park, which also has a well-maintained polo ground, mini zoo, and Japanese garden. The park has been designed to provide tourists with beautiful scenes in the natural environment of Shillong City. The evening is free for sightseeing in Shillong or other activities you might want to undertake, such as going to a café and shopping for local crafts. Stay in your hotel in Shillong for the night.
In the morning, after breakfast, get ready for the sightseeing trip to Cherrapunjee, one of the world’s wettest places with beautiful landscapes. On the way, it is possible to visit the Mawkdok Valley, which has magnificent sightseeing in the greens, hills, and deep valleys, perfect for some photographic masterpieces. Now, proceed to the Nohkalikai Falls, one of India’s highest waterfalls, with a height of 1,115 feet, where water plunges into the blue pool below, a beautiful sight indeed. You will also tour Dainthlen Falls, which, like most scenic places, has its lore and legend, and pass through the Ramakrishna Mission, a social and religious institution. After reaching Cherrapunjee, you will be taken to your hotel, where you can spend the rest of the evening at your leisure. Overnight stay in Cherrapunjee at your respective hotel.
Wake up early for a hearty breakfast to prepare for the thrilling hike to the spectacular Two-Storeyed Living Root Tree Bridge. This beautiful natural phenomenon of several interlinked tree roots is found in the dense forests of Cherrapunjee. The trek, which may take 3 to 4 hours normally depending on fitness level, will cover parts of the dense forests, cross small streams, and go through some small villages, and thus is an excellent way to see the rural life of Meghalaya. After this adrenaline rush, retire to your hotel to change, and then take lunch. Several waterfalls are present in the Cherrapunjee area, including the Nohsngithiang Falls, also called the Seven Sisters Waterfalls, composed of seven distinct cascades. Visit the Mawsmai Cave, a unique Limestone cave with confined tunnel-like corridors and exquisite formations of stalactites and stalagmites. You will also tour the Koh Ram Hah, a large rock formation with a background to Cambodian folklore, and the second stop at the Ecopark presents a stunning view of the greeneries and plains of Bangladesh far in the distance. Returning to the hotel in the evening is advisable to enjoy the evening rest, think about the day, and plan for the next day. Accommodation in your hotel at Cherrapunjee for the night.
Following breakfast, it is time to leave Cherrapunjee behind and head towards Guwahati by road. On the way, it is possible to visit the delightful Elephanta Falls, where the water flows down in three stages, with the third fall dropping in a gorge blanketed by ferns. Further to this is the breathtaking Shillong Peak and the stunning view of the entire city and the whole of Shillong, the undulating hills, and sometimes even the plains of Bangladesh during clear weather. On arrival at Guwahati, reach your hotel. After that, in the evening, you will be taken to the Kalakshetra, an open-air theatre cultural complex, which displays the rich culture of Assam through art, drama, music, and dance troupes in open-air theatre. This visit serves the purpose of understanding more about Assam’s traditions and cultural transformation. Overnight at the hotel to stay in Guwahati.
Start your day by offering prayers to Kamakhya Temple, one of India’s most prominent pilgrimage centers for Shakti worship. The temple is built at the top of Nilachal Hills and provides beautiful scenery, particularly the Brahmaputra River. If your trail of religious sights is ongoing, follow the Balaji Temple with visits to the Tirupati Balaji Temple, a contemporary temple to Lord Venkateswara, and the Nabagraha Temple, the temple of nine planets. After that, visit the Assam State Museum, which stores many cultural relics, sculptures, and historical pieces that date back to the Assam region. Other attractions include the State Zoo cum Botanical Garden where various animals and plants native to the region can be seen with great locomotion for nature-enthralled enthusiasts. The Regional Science Centre provides interesting exhibits and educational experiences for science lovers. In the evening, there are optional activities that you may be interested in. The golden sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River is where you can enjoy beautiful nature and the breeze while watching the scenic sunset. End your visit to Guwahati and spend the night at your hotel.
After breakfast, you are free to do your shopping until it is time to leave for Guwahati Airport or Railway Station. As you go home, let the experience of Meghalaya’s hilly terrains, Cherrapunjee’s beautiful waterfalls, and Guwahati’s history accompany you.
