Itinerary
On reaching Guwahati Airport/Railway Station, you will be transferred to Shillong, the ‘Scotland of the East,’ at 4950 feet. On the way through the winding roads, you observe a picturesque spot, with the calm water body of Umium Lake surrounded by emerald hills. The overlying water of the lake is clear, and you can see the reflection of the sky, creating an impression of the twinkle that is characteristic of fancy fairy tales. When you arrive at your hotel in Shillong, complete the check-in formalities, spend some time in your room, and freshen up. The evening remains free for other activities, such as shopping, exploring Kibuye and other markets, or relaxing. Overnight stay at Shillong.
Over a cup of tea, enjoy an early breakfast as you prepare for a day trip to Cherrapunjee, the wettest place on Earth, situated at an altitude of 4,400 feet. The journey alone is scenic, even with the snowy mist surrounding the hills and the green environment. When you get to Cherrapunjee, one must vouch for the beauty of the tallest waterfalls in India and perhaps the world – the Nohkalikai Falls, which measures 1,115 feet. Visit the famous Mawsmai caves, which have limestone formations and passages that are generally slightly constricted in some parts. Towards evening, begin the return trip to Shillong, with a break to admire the Elephanta Falls and the Shillong Peak – a vantage point that allows you to take in the view of the city and the hills. Overnight stay at Shillong.
After breakfast, proceed to Dawki, a picturesque border town famous for the Umangot River. The water in the river is so clean that it gives the impression that the boats are touching the sky. You can spend some time enjoying the view of the scenic beauty before moving forward to the next destination, which is Mawlynnong Village, known as one of the cleanest villages in Asia. Visit the living root bridges, which are characteristic of this area, and be amazed at the phenomenon of a boulder standing on a small stone. The village is also very clean, with beautiful gardens around the houses and buildings with typical native architecture. Return to Shillong in the evening to spend another night in your hotel.
Start your day with an early breakfast at your hotel and head to the Don Bosco Museum, which has enormous collections of Indigenous cultures and practices in the northeastern regions. Later, take a leisurely walk around Ward’s Lake, an artificial lake with a wooden bridge and well-maintained lawns and gardens. After your tour in Shillong, proceed on another tour to Guwahati. On arrival, proceed to check in at your chosen designated hotel. In the evening, there is an optional tour. A golden sunset cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra River will be arranged so that one can see the sunset over the river. Overnight stay at Guwahati.
Post-breakfast, head straight for Guwahati’s spiritual and cultural essence, beginning with the Kamakhya Temple, one of India’s oldest and most important pilgrimage sites. You may further visit the Tirupati Balaji Temple, Nabagraha Temple, and Sukreswar Temple, one of Lord Shiva’s twelve Jyotirlingas. Spend time at the Assam State Museum (closed on Mondays) to learn more about the region, and the State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is also a must-visit. If there is time, head on to the Regional Science Centre as your final day tour destination. After visiting the museum, return to the hotel in Guwahati for an overnight stay.
That’s all for your 5 Nights 6 Days Majestic Shillong and Guwahati Himalaya Sojourn Tour Package. It’s time to check out after breakfast. Finally, leave your hotel and be transferred to Guwahati Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey, leaving behind the beauty and culture of the Northeast with happy memories and sad emotions.
