How to Reach Thimphu from Guwahati by Air
The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, has flight connectivity with Paro International Airport in Bhutan. Visitors wondering about how to reach Thimphu from Assam, can take direct as well as connecting flights via Kathmandu in Nepal to reach Paro.
Upon arrival in Paro, visitors can take a roadway journey to make it to their final destination – Thimphu.
NOTE: Foreign nationals can also take direct flights to Paro International Airport from Singapore, Dhaka (Bangladesh), Bangkok (Thailand), and Kathmandu (Nepal).
How to Reach Thimphu from Assam by Train
Bhutan doesn’t have any railway connectivity with any international destination; Assam is also included in the list. Thus, finding a train journey directly to Thimphu won’t be possible! However, if you are in Assam, you can take a train ride to Bongaigaon Railway Station in Assam’s Bongaigaon town, and plan a road trip to Gelephu in Bhutan. Once you make your entry into Gelephu, you can reach Thimphu easily by driving along the Bhutanese terrains.

How to Reach Thimphu from Assam by Road
Guwahati and Bongaigaon are the best points in Assam to embark on a road journey to reach Thimphu in Bhutan. In fact, three of the entry points to the Land of the Thunder Dragons are in Assam.
Starting from Guwahati, you can follow the NH-27, and drive 150km (3 hours) to reach Samdrup Jongkhar point that will give you access to enter Bhutan. As you make your Bhutan entry through this point, you can continue driving along the NH-27 for another 11 hours (covering 419km) to reach Thimphu city. Local buses and private vehicles are readily available in Samdrup Jongkhar to reach Thimphu.
If you plan your road journey from Bongaigaon, you should first drive to Gelephu point, which is nearly 50km (1 hours’ drive) away from Bongaigaon. From Gelephu, you can board the local buses or get yourself a guided taxi ride to reach Thimphu; this part of the journey would cover 243km (7 hours).
