Druk Wangyal Lhakhang
Druk Wangyal Lhakhang is a Buddhist temple locate at the Dochula Pass. A wonderful religious establishment to learn more about Buddhism, this sacred temple was built by Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk in 2008 to commemorate the 108 Bhutanese soldiers who sacrificed their lives in 2003 while fighting Assamese insurgents.
The temple is characterised by its walls that are beautifully adorned with modern murals; they simply cast a spell on the visitors with their vividness. Unlike most of the religious temples, Druk Wangyal Lhakhang’s walls are painted with Druk airplanes, monk with laptops, members of the royal family, and the 4th Bhutanese King who led the army against the insurgents.
On you visit to Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, you can also witness large statues presiding within the temple complex. Among these, the prominent ones are of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal; the founder of Bhutanese state, Lord Gautama Buddha, and Guru Rinpoche; one of the most admired and respected Lamas from Bhutan.
