Khoma Village
Located around 7km from the Lhuentse Dzong and 2 hours’ drive away from Mongar Town, Khoma Village is the epitome of weaving art and culture in Bhutan. A tiny, yet pictorial hamlet with minimal number of households, this village sits on a hilltop that is tucked away between the Yongla Chhu and Khoma Chhu rivers. The Yonphula Domestic Airport in Bhutan at a distance of 155km is the closest airport to reach the beautiful Khoma Village.
It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava once visited the Khoma Village during 8th century and blessed the women of this village with exceptional weaving skills. Colourful, vibrant, intricate, and very attractive, these traditional woven textiles are called as ‘Kishuthara’. On a visit to Khoma Village, one could find the local women sitting in a row and weaving the Kishuthara Kiras that could be priced somewhere between Nu100,000-120,000 outside the Khoma Village.
