How to Reach Paro From Hyderabad

How to Reach Paro from Hyderabad by Air

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has regular flights flying to and landing from different corners of the world. Unfortunately, the airport has no direct flights to or from Paro International Airport in Bhutan.

However, if you are planning a trip to the Happiest Kingdom of Bhutan, you shouldn’t worry about direct flights from Hyderabad to Paro. Rather, you can fly directly to Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi), Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata), Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati), Bodhgaya Airport (Gaya), or Bagdogra Airport (Siliguri, West Bengal) from Hyderabad.

From these airports, you can book flight tickets to Paro International Airport in Bhutan. All of these airports have direct flight operated by Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines on a daily basis. Some of these flights even fly via Kathmandu in Nepal.

NOTE: Foreign nationals can reach Paro without flying to India. They can book direct flights operated by Druk Air from Singapore, Dhaka (Bangladesh), Nepal (Kathmandu) or Bangkok (Thailand) to reach Paro International Airport. Druk Air has regular flights from these destinations to Paro Valley.

How to Reach Paro from Hyderabad by Train

Bhutan – the Land of Thunder Dragons, do not have any railway connectivity with any of the foreign destinations. Thus, you may not be able to enjoy a train ride from Hyderabad to Paro! However, if you are smitten by the travel bug, and are looking for how to reach Paro from Hyderabad by train, you can book your train tickets from Hyderabad to railway stations across the Indian states of West Bengal or Assam. Since these two states are the closest Indian destinations to Bhutan, you can enjoy your train ride to any of them and can finally make it to Paro by embarking on a roadway journey.

If you wish to continue your train ride to West Bengal, you should deboard the train either at Kolkata, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, New Alipurduar, or Hasimara. From these stations, you should hit the roads and drive up to a town called Jaigaon in Alipurduar district in West Bengal-Bhutan border. From this town, you can enter the Bhutanese town of Phuentsholing, and continue driving along the Thimphu-Phuentsholing Highway. A 143km (4 hours’) drive along this route, and you will reach your dream destination – Paro.

If you plan for a train ride to Assam, you should get down either at Bongaigaon Railway Junction or Guwahati Railway Station. From these railway stations, you can reach Paro either via Gelephu or Samdrup Jongkhar entry points (check the below section for driving details).

How to Reach Paro from Hyderabad by Road

If road journey is your thing, you should first plan a road trip from Hyderabad to Kolkata. Upon arriving in Kolkata, you can either board a direct bus from the Esplanade Bus Stand or take another road trip to Jaigaon in Alipurduar. If going by the direct buses from Kolkata to Thimphu, this journey would take you around 18 hours, and you can complete the last leg of Thimphu-Paro by taking another drive of 50km (1.5 hours) from Thimphu.

On the other hand, a road trip between Kolkata and Jaigaon would take you around 17 hours while covering a total of 705km. From Jaigaon, you can reach Paro via Phuentsholing by driving another 50km (1.5 hours’ drive) along the Thimphu-Phuentsholing Highway.

In case, you are already in Assam, and planning for a roadways journey to reach Paro, you can either start your road trip from Bongaigaon or Guwahati. If planning for Bongaigaon, you should first enter Bhutan through the Gelephu point, which is around 50km (1 hours’ drive) away from Bongaigaon. From this point, you should take another drive of 250km (8 hours) along the Wangdue-Tsirang Highway to reach Paro.

If Guwahati is in your mind, you can enter the Bhutanese Kingdom through Samdrup Jongkhar point; 150km (3 hours’ drive) from Guwahati. Here onwards, you should be driving along the NH-27 and cover another 459km (10 hours’ drive) to reach Paro.
