How to Reach Thimphu From Guwahati

On this note, if you are planning such a trip, and wondering about how to reach Thimphu from Guwahati, here’s how you should be planning your trip.
How to Reach Thimphu from Guwahati by Air
The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati (Assam) has direct flights to Paro International Airport in Bhutan; flying would be the best answer to the question: how to reach Thimphu from Guwahati. Both Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines operate both direct and connecting flights via Kathmandu (Nepal) from Guwahati.
As you land in Paro, you can embark on an exciting roadway journey from Paro to reach Thimphu.
NOTE: International visitors can also fly directly to Paro International Airport from Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Dhaka (Bangladesh), and Kathmandu (Nepal). Paro has regular flight connectivity with all these international destinations.
How to Reach Thimphu from Guwahati by Train
If you are in Guwahati, and planning to start with a train journey to Thimphu in Bhutan, you won’t find any better option than a train ride to Bongaigaon town, which is located around 186km (4 hours’ drive) away from Guwahati.
On reaching Bongaigaon, you can embark on a road journey to Gelephu in Bhutan, and finally make your entry to Thimphu by another leg of road trip from Gelephu.

How to Reach Thimphu from Guwahati by Road
Guwahati offers two options to reach Thimphu by road: Bongaigaon-Gelephu and Guwahati-Samdrup Jongkhar.
If you wish to hit the roads from Guwahati, you should take the NH-27 and continue driving till you reach Samdrup Jongkhar entry point. This point is located around 150km (3 horus’ drive) away from Guwahati. From Samdrup Jongkhar, you can continue driving along the NH-27 for another 419km (11 hours) to reach Thimphu.
If you plan a road trip to Thimphu via Bongaigaon, you can first take a train ride, bus ride, or hire private taxis to reach Bongaigaon from Guwahati. Once you are in Bongaigaon, you can drive towards the Gelephu entry point, which is only 50km (1 hours’ drive) away from Bongaigaon. From Gelephu, you should continue your road journey for another stretch of 243km (7 hours) to reach Thimphu.
