Tourists from all over the world visit the kingdom of Bhutan and are never left disappointed. On your 11D10N trip, you will be covering destinations like Thimphu, Wangdue/Punakha, Bumthang and Paro, which are the most visited destinations in the country.
So, get ready to make some wonderful memories on your vacation in Bhutan.
Itinerary
Upon your arrival at the Paro International Airport, you will be given a cordial welcome by our associate. He will then accompany you to your hotel in Thimphu, which is located 1 hour 16 minutes (50.8 km) away, by road.
Once you have reached your hotel and are well rested, you can start your sightseeing tour. The first destination that you will be visiting is the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory. Traditional methods are used here, in producing paper. It manufactures the most authentic Bhutanese paper, which is known as Deh-sho. Having a look at the entire process of traditional paper making is an experience in itself.
Later on, you can visit the local market of the town and spend your leisure time shopping or trying out the local cuisines.
Post this tiring day, return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After completing your breakfast at the hotel, you can continue your sightseeing tour for the day. Today you will visit the National Memorial Chorten. The Chorten is a Stupa, built in the year 1974. It was built in the honour of the third Druk Gyalpo and the highlights of this place are its golden bells and spires.
Your next visit is to the Trashi Chhoe Dzong. The place has been the seat of the Dharma Raja, who is the head of Bhutan’s civil government. The structure of this place is two storied with white washed walls and a further three storied tower on all four corner depicts triple-tired golden roofs.
The last destination is the National Folk Heritage Museum. Want to see a glimpse of the culture of Bhutan? Then this is the place to be at. A fun fact about the place is that the museum artefacts transform seasonally and every time you visit the place, you will get to see something new.
Later on, you can head back to your hotel for dinner and night stay.
After your breakfast, you will be taking another road trip to Wangdue, which is located 1 hour 52 minutes (70.2 km) away from Thimphu.
Post the completion of your check-in formalities, you can start with your city tour. The first destination you will be visiting is the Jigme Singye Wangchuk National Park. You will spend the entire day here and enjoy the beautiful surroundings that consist of natural trees and gigantic valleys. Also, the park is the largest protected area in Bhutan and is a haven for migratory birds. Apart from birds, you will also spot the Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Black Bear, Blue Sheep, and Takin here.
After this thrilling experience, head back to your hotel and catch up on some rest.
On day 3, you will be travelling to Punakha that is located 2 hours 26 minutes (84.9 km) away from Thimphu. So, make sure you have an early breakfast and commence with the journey.
After completing the check-in process at the hotel in Punakha, you can start with your city tour. Today you will be going for a hike at the Samtengang Trek. The trek is a very easy and suitable trek for all kinds of trekkers. The highlight point of the trek is the beautiful trail, which offers splendid views of the entire town.
Post this tiring trek, it is time to take some rest at the hotel.
Today you will be completing your sightseeing tour in Wangdue after the breakfast routine at the hotel. You will begin your tour with the Temple of Sha Radap. The place is also known as the Rada Lhakhang and the temple gets its name from Sha Radap, the deity that is worshipped here. Locals often pay a visit to this temple and seek blessings.
Later on, you will visit the Phobjikha Valley. The valley is one of the few glacial valleys in the country and is distinctly shaped like a bowl. This is due to the glacier that existed before. For those with a keen interest in birds, this is the perfect place for you.
Lastly, you will head to the Rinchegang Village. A trip here is like heaven for photographers. Also, you can experience and know about the rural way of life in Bhutan here.
Post this fun-filled day, head back to your hotel for the night stay.
Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and then restart your sightseeing tour. For today you will be visiting the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. The Chorten is a splendid architectural complex and has an artistic vision of the Bhutanese culture attached to it. The extensive rice fields that surround the temple also add up to the nice aura.
The next destination in the town is the Zangdo Pelri Temple. The temple is a magnificent place in Bhutan where you can find statues of Guru along with his eight manifestations. Here the walls are enclosed with several paintings that are taken from the life of Buddha. You must visit the place for its architecture.
Lastly, you head to the Punakha Suspension Bridge. Crossing this bridge is fun; however, do not forget to make a visit to the nearby Punakha Dzong. It is a beautiful ancient fortress, which houses valuable relics.
Later on, return to your hotel for a delicious dinner and a good night’s stay.
Today you will be travelling to Bumthang via road. So have an early breakfast and leave for the road trip immediately.
Upon your arrival at the hotel, complete your check-in formalities and start with your sightseeing tour. The first destination in the city is the Jakar Dzong. This picturesque location overlooks the Chokhor valley and was built in 1667. It is also known as the Yuelay Namgyal Dzong. This is in honour of the victory over the troops of the Tibetan ruler.
After the tour of this Dzong, spend some leisure time at the local market of the town and you can also try out some local delicacies if you wish to.
Later on, return to your hotel and catch up on some rest.
Post your breakfast routine at the hotel, you can continue with the sightseeing tour. The first destination for today is the Kurjey Lhakhang. This temple complex is huge and very active. It is named after the body (kur) print (jey) of Guru Rinpoche. The body is preserved here in a cave inside the oldest of the three buildings that make up the temple complex.
Later on, you can visit the Tamshing Goemba. This Goemba was formally known as the Tamshing Lhendup Chholing. It was established in 1501 the unusual structure became an attraction point for tourists.
Your last destination for the day is the Konchogsum Lhakhang. The place is located 400m below Tamshing. Although the place is recently constructed and brightly painted, the building completely envelops the restored remains of the original temple. The mixture of modern art and ancient culture is the highlight of this place.
After this tiring yet fun-filled day, you can head back to your hotel for the overnight stay.
Start your day by having a healthy breakfast at the hotel. You can then continue with your sightseeing tour in the town of Bumthang. The first destination for the day is the Wangdichholing Palace. The palace was built in 1857, on the site of a battle camp. Fun fact is that it is the first palace in Bhutan that was not designed as a fortress. The place is definitely worth a visit.
Your next destination is the Jampey Lhakhang. This temple was built in 659 by the then Tibetan King on the same day as Kyichu Lhakhang in Paro. Also, the temple was visited by Guru Rinpoche during his visit to Bumthang and hence holds lots of spiritual value to the locals.
Post the tour of this temple; you will visit the Ngang Lhakhang. Even this site was visited by Guru Rinpoche and hence holds utmost importance in the town. Go there for its structure and architecture and you will not be disappointed.
Later on, return to your hotel for dinner and night stay.
Today you will take your final road trip to Paro, which is 8 hours 54 minutes (312.4 km) away from Bumthang. So make sure you have an early breakfast and leave for your journey.
Upon your arrival at the hotel, complete your check-in process and leave for your sightseeing tour. Your destination for today is the Chele La Pass. This pass is the highest motorable pass in all of Bhutan. It offers the view of the great Mt. Jomolhari and Jitchu Drake. With this, it also overlooks both the valleys of Paro and Haa.
After the tour of the pass, return to your hotel for the night stay.
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel and then continue with your sightseeing tour. The first destination for the day is the Tiger’s Nest (Paro Taktsang). It is a beautiful place that has great religious significance. The monastery offers beautiful and splendid views of the surrounding valleys due to its location that is on an upper cliff. This place is undoubtedly an architectural marvel.
Your next destination is the Rinpung Dzong. The Dzong is one of the finest examples of splendid work of architecture. The place also has a very spiritual environment and portrays many illustrations and paintings on the life of Buddha.
The last destination for the day is the Drukgyel Dzong. Although the place is now in ruins, if you want to see the fascinating stone work of the past, you must visit this place. Also, on climbing to the top of the ruins you will get an extraordinary view of the valley around you.
Post this lovely day, you can head back to your hotel for dinner and night stay.
Begin your day with a healthy breakfast at the hotel and then continue with your sightseeing tour. The first destination of the day will be the National Museum of Bhutan. The place is like a paradise for history lovers. It flaunts art and traditions on its vast six-floor building. One can see paintings, art pieces, animal masks and many more facets here.
You will then head to Paro Chhu. This place is a tributary of Wong Chhu. The river passes through Paro Taktsang and Paro Dzong and gives both the grand monasteries a glorious look. It also has a step bridge, which is built over the Paro River leading to the Paro Dzong.
The last destination in the city is the Dzongdrakha Goemba. This is a serene site that is also known as Mini Taktsang. The place comprises of four temples and is often visited by locals. It is blessed by Guru Rinpoche himself and hence it holds a lot of spiritual importance.
After the tour of the Goemba, return to your hotel and start packing for your departure the next day.
