Geyzing- The Land Rich In Natural Beauty And Culture
Hemmed in by the mesmerizing mountains of Kanchenjunga, Geyzing is a small town, the capital of the district of West Sikkim. Its sheer natural beauty can leave any traveller gape in awe. Located at an altitude of 6500 ft, Geyzing is home to several holy monasteries such as Sangachoeling and Pemayangtse. Buddhist tourists also come here from far and wide. On the western side of the town flows a lovely river Rangeet. Apart from Buddhist monasteries, there are several other attractions in Geyzing. Visit Vershey, a small rhododendron sanctuary located quite close to Singalila Ridge. It also offers arresting views of snow-capped Kanchenjunga mountains, the third highest mountains in the world. This place also offers great trekking trails in the middle of wild orchids, exquisite flora, old rhododendron trees and hanging mosses.
Reach Geyzing By Air
The nearest airport from Geyzing is Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, West Bengal which is around 134 kilometers from it. It is around 5 hours drive. This airport offers regular flights to and from several major cities of India such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. From the airport, you can travel to Geyzing in a private taxi. Shared taxis and state-run buses are also available.
Geyzing is located 122 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Geyzing is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Geyzing. Gangtok is the nearest town of Sikkim from Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal, around 125 km.
The good news is that Sikkim has now got its own airport- Pakyong Airport, which will directly connect it with the major cities of India once it’s fully operational. The airport is located in Pakyong village which is around 35 km from south of Gangtok. It is the first airport of Sikkim located at an altitude of 4,590 ft and is one of the highest altitude airports in India. Once it is operational you can easily reach Gangtok in less time.
Reach Geyzing By Train
The nearest railway station to Geyzing is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in Siliguri, West Bengal. It is around 127 km from Geyzing. It is around 4-5 hour drive from the airport to the town. The railway station is well connected to major cities of India such as Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi. Private as well as shared taxis are available at the airport and in Siliguri.
