Lachung Weather in February

Let The Icy-Cold Winf Invigorate Your Soul While You Experience Lachung In Its True Form!

Snow-clad mountains and icy-cold wind is the perfect way to imagine winters in Lachung. Some people believe that the best time to visit Lachung is from October to June as the rhododendrons bloom unabashedly. However, the place has an unparalleled charm when it is embellished with snow all over. February marks the end of winter in Lachung. Temperature drops as low as -5 degree Celsius in this month. While most people would opt for summer or spring to enjoy favourable and pleasant weather conditions for outings, you can experience Lachung in its true form only in February. Heavy snowfall and fog make it the ideal place for sightseeing and spending some time amidst nature’s serenity.

While snow and everything cold are the prime reasons to visit Lachung in February, Losar Festival is indisputably the strongest attraction here. The harbinger of New Year, Losar is celebrated with unrestrained joy and excitement from February to March. Earlier, this festival was conducted in the form of a spiritual ceremony wherein incense was offered to the deities and spirits. The ceremony was converted into a yearly Buddhist Festival later. The merriment and celebration is preceded by three days of ancient rituals and customs after which the locals indulge in traditional folk songs and dances. You can experience a riot of colours, traditions and customs during this time of the year. Losar is a great opportunity to witness the locals decorating their houses in elaborate ways to keep the evil forces at bay. Simplicity and tradition at its best!

A small settlement amidst the lofty mountains and thick forests, Lachen is about 49 kms from Lachung. The place is an ultimate treat for people who love camping and want to experience nature that is untarnished by man and his activities. Lachen is the base to the Gurudongmar Lake and Chopta Valley which make it an ideal camping site for every traveller.

River Lachung Chu is another mesmerising sight here. Flowing at a fierce pace through the valley, the river’s charm is accentuated by the apple and apricot orchards surrounding it. It is en route Zero Point or Yumesadong which is at an altitude of over 15,000 ft. Zero Point is covered in snow throughout the month of February. The place gets its name from the fact that the civilian road ends here and you can’t drive any further. Zero Point offers unprecedented views as the three rivers meet with the surrounding mountains here. It is a visual treat to witness the entire landscape swathed in snow while the yaks leisurely graze on the scarce grassy patches.

February is undoubtedly the most favourable time to indulge in the winters of Lachung with gay abandon. Sip on hot coffee, soak in the beauty of snow and experience some peace and quiet while Lachung mesmerises you with its extravagance.
