Lachung Weather In July
Revel In The Colours Of Lachung As The Showers Expose Its True Beauty!
Enchanting valleys and exquisite flora with the snow-capped mountains accentuating its visual appeal, Lachung’s beauty is untarnished by the onslaught of human activities. Even though the typical alpine climate offers favourable weather conditions to indulge in Lachung throughout the year, a lot of people visit the place based on the kind of season they prefer. Monsoon approaches Lachung in the month of July. The place receives torrential rainfall during this time owing to its proximity to the Bay of Bengal. However, for tourists and travellers who want to see Lachung in its pristine raw form; July is just the right time. It is also a great opportunity to explore Lachung’s elements like the age-old monasteries and sanctuaries that make Lachung what it truly is.
One such place is the Rumtek Monastery or Dharma Chakra Centre. It is the largest Gompa in Sikkim that preserves and showcases the religious and cultural value of Buddhism in India. The monastery is symbolic of the intention of the sixteenth Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje who wanted to preach Buddhism and spread the teachings of Buddha in the world. The main attraction of the Gompa is the Golden Stupa which several monks, pilgrims and tourists visit to play Kora (a stringed instrument). One can also get a glimpse of the monks’ lifestyle as the monastery allows a tour of the monks’ quarters.
Chungthang is a small town about 22 kms from Lachung. Rivers Lachung and Lachen chhus meet river Teesta here. A lot of people come here to visit the sacred stone called Naydo which is believed to have Guru Padmasambhava’s footprints. The Chungthang Monastery is a storehouse of some rare exquisite Buddhist paintings. The stone houses and large edifices enhance the appeal and value of this monastery.
Yumthang Valley in Lachung is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, popularly known as the ‘Valley of Flowers’. The sanctuary is draped in varied hues in July as the rhododendrons bloom unabashedly during this time. There are around 40 species of Rhododendrons present here. The various other trees like Potentillas, Aconites, and Poppies further enhance the beauty of this sanctuary.
Clearly, rains are no reason to shy away from experiencing Lachung. The showers make the place all the more picturesque and lend the perfect vibe to unwind amidst the mountains and the enchanting valleys.
