About the Trek

This one trek in Sikkim is probably amongst the very few treks that offer the magnificent views of five of the most demanding Himalayan peaks – Mt. Everest, My Kanchendzonga, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Sinoclu and Mt. Lhotse. Well, this is also the main reason, the YambongSinalila trek in Sikkim is considered as one of the must to do treks in the region.
Also, as the trek makes its way through lush forests and untouched regions, the trekkers can also spot several endangered and rare wildlife species on this Sikkim trek. The most commonly found species are the Red Panda, Blue Sheep, Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan Black Bear, Satyr Trapogan, Blood Pheasant and others.
Itinerary
Though Nambu is the origin of this trek, trekking will start from Sang Khola. From Nambu, you will be driven towards the starting point of this trek. Arriving in Sang khola, have some rest and spend overnight in camps or tents.
Begin the trek along the riverside valley in Sang Khola. A steep climb of around 1 hour, this part of the trek will take you through a Bhutia village called Chingri. As you start crossing the village, gradual and steady trails will follow in and trekking for the next 3-4 hours through the dense thickets of rhododendrons, chestnut and magnolia, you will reach NayaPatal; overnight stay in NayaPatal.
Today’s trek will take you through one of the finest and picturesque trails of pine, chestnut, dwarf bamboo and fern grooves. As you trek further, you can witness the vegetation changing from temperate to alpine. Upon crossing these forests, there will be a one hour steep ascend followed by exhilarating zigzag down-trails that will finally take you to the overnight camp in Lower Yambong.
Starting from the Lower Yambong campsite, you will be ascending through the beautiful Megu Valley. As you reach the village, the terrains will change from gradual to steep, and you will be gaining more height to reach Kopche. From Kopche, the terrains will again become gradual and will follow the same till you reach Upper Yambog campsite.
On today’s trek, you will be enjoying the astounding views of the Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchendzonga Range and Kumbakarna. Following several exhilarating ascends and descends, you will finally reach Gomathang after 4-5 hours of trekking though the gorgeous terrains.
The trek for the day passes through thick rhododendron forests and the hike till Yangshep (3900 m) will be a gradual one. After you cross Yangshep, you will encounter steeper trails that requires a bit of trekking skills and efforts. Follow these steeper trails and you will finally reach Pangding after around 5-6 hours of trekking.
Today’s trek will take you across a river in the Bikbari region. On crossing the river, you have to trek for a few hours to reach the Dzongri campsite; overnight in the camp.
While trekking from Dzongri to Lamune, you will get to sight many natural splendours. The trails are pleasant on this route and offers wonderful views of the Mt. Pandim, Kanchendzonga Peak, Samiti Lake and colourful prayer flags; overnight stay will be in a camp in Lamune.
In addition to one of the longest trekking day, you will also come across rocky terrains while passing over the Goechala Pass. The terrains can get slippery due to the melting of the snow; however the hike will be easy and offers demanding views of the Mt. Kanchendzonga and Talung Glacier. After arriving in Thangshing, rest and relax in the camp.
Today’s trek will be through the beautiful and evergreen juniper and rhododendron forests. Starting from morning, this 4-5 hours trek will take you to a magnificent Tibetan village called Tshoka, where you will spend overnight.
On the last day of this exhilarating trek, you will be making your last move from Tshoka to Yuksam. Once you complete this 6 hours trek and arrive in Yuksam, the trek will get completed.
