Tsomgo Lake (Tsomgo means ‘Source of Water’) is one of the major attractions of Gangtok which is the capital city of Sikkim. Nestled at an altitude of 12,310 feet, the Lake is a famous high altitude lake of India. It is a perfect place to get rejuvenated. The captivating views of the surroundings is such a treat for the eyes. The sacredness of the Lake adds more charm to it. The lake is 50 meters deep and is 1 km long. There is also a small temple on the bank of the lake built in devotion of Lord Shiva. Go there and take blessing of the Lord. During winters the lake is frozen while in other seasons like spring it comes to life with colourful flowers in its surroundings.

The weather in the month of March is cold and sometimes windy. It is easily tolerable if you wear really warm clothes and shoes. The temperature is quite low and may even drop below minus degree. So when you go there make sure you are well packed in woollen clothes.
How To Reach Tsomgo Lake
When it comes to reaching Tsomgo Lake, you don’t have to worry about it. It is easily accessible from Gangtok by road. It is around 38 km from Gangtok and takes around 2-3 hours through a good vehicle. Since the route from Gangtok to Tsomgo Lake is picturesque because of the rugged mountains and scenic beauty, it is a bit bumpy too at certain stretches. So travelling through a good vehicle like Innova would be a good idea.
Gangtok is easily accessible from any major city of India through air and rail. You can by flight to Bagdogra airport (125 km from Gangtok) in Siliguri, West Bengal, from the major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc., or take a train to New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri which is 117 km far from Gangtok.

Important Tips To Consider When You Travel To Tsomgo Lake In February
It is a high altitude lake, as a result, the oxygen content is low here. After arriving here, rest for some time in order to adjust to the environment. Make sure you don’t exert yourself too much upon your arrival at the Lake as it might lead to dizziness due to low oxygen content.
Drink lots of water so that you don’t get dehydrated.
Avoid alcohol and smoking.
Eat light. Stay away from heavy meals.
Pack good woollens and sports shoes for a comfortable journey when you are in Sikkim.
If you are anaemic, make sure you carry your iron supplement because anaemia lowers the amount of oxygen in your blood and hence it makes you more susceptible to mountain sickness.
Consult your physician before coming to Tsomgo Lake. He might prescribe some medicine to avoid mountain sickness. Keep that medicine with you.
If you have a breathing problem, carry your oxygen tank.

One of the must visit attractions near Tsomgo Lake is Nathula Pass. It is a well know pass where adventure lovers come from across the globe. It would be no exaggeration to say that this Pass is like a paradise offering sheer natural beauty. In fact, Nathula Pass is one of the highest motorable road in the world, located at an altitude of 4,310 m above mean sea level.
Vital Information
Although Nathula Pass is open in March but if unavoidable weather conditions arise, then the road to the pass might get blocked and in such a case permit is not issued to visitors. You are advised to check it once you reach Gangtok.
Visitors need permission along with vehicle permission to visit Nathula pass. It is advisable to take permission one day prior to your visit as there is a limitation on the number of vehicles per day.
Only Indian nationals can visit Nathula Pass It is open for 5 days a week including Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and closed for two days- Monday & Tuesday.
