How To Reach Tsomgo Lake
Tsomgo lake is very easily reachable via road from Gangtok. Approximately 38 km away from the capital city of Sikkim, it takes 2-3 hours to reach the Tsomgo lake. Take the Gangtok-Nathu La highway, and you’ll enter one of the most alluring places on earth yet out of this planet. The drive is full of beautiful views of high held trees, turning roads, snow-covered mountains and refreshing skies.
In order to reach Gangtok, you can either take a flight or a train to Bagdogra Airport or the New Jaipalguri Railway Station respectively. Both the plane and the trains provide connectivity to Siliguri from the major Indian cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc. Where the airport is around 125 km from Gangtok, the railway station finds itself at a distance of 117 km.

Things To Remember Or Important Tips
It is said the slower you take things, the better results you bear. Therefore, follow this mantra while you are making your way to the Tsomgo Lake. As it is a high-altitude area, the oxygen level is lesser than usual. Take breaks in between and do not get over-excited after you reach up here. Do not over-exert otherwise; dizziness is all you are going to feel.
Do not indulge yourself in drinking alcohol or smoking.
Drink lots of water. Keep yourself fully dehydrated.
Take woollens.
Go for light meals. Avoid having heavy diets.
If you are anaemic, carry your iron supplements as oxygen level is low.
In case you have any respiratory problems carry an oxygen tank.
Consult a physician before coming to Tsomgo.
Wear sports shoes so that it becomes easier for you to walk to and around the lake.
Nearby Attractions
At a distance of 8-9 km is the holy shrine of Baba Harbhajan Singh who was a 22-year-old sepoy serving the Indian Army. According to a legend, while saving a group of mules, he lost his life, and since then his soul is believed to guard the nearby international borders. You can visit the temple to seek his blessings.
While you are at Tsomgo, you can also visit the former Silk Route between India-China, the Nathu La Pass. It is the highest motorable road in the world located at the height of 4310 m. Add some adventure to your otherwise enthralling trip by visiting the Nathu La Pass. This Indo-China border indeed has history registered for itself. From the trading route to the military area now, it is a place one must visit once.
Essential Information
Visitors need special permits to visit Nathu La Pass which could be obtained after applying at the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department. One can easily request for one through registered tour operators. A single permit costs around INR 200. In order to prevent any havoc, you must apply for the permit a day before both for yourself and your vehicle.
As it is a restricted area, only Indian Nationals are allowed. The area is open for visitors from Wednesday-Sunday. It remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
